Transmission oil flush

A transmission fluid flush is recommended by transmission manufacturers such as ZF at around 80,000 km (approx. 50,000 miles) to significantly extend the life of your transmission and prevent performance deterioration. Over the time, dirt, metal particles, and other contaminants accumulate in the transmission fluid, leading to rough and unresponsive shifting.

The key advantage of a transmission flush over a simple fluid change is that the entire system is thoroughly cleaned using a specialized flushing device. Fresh transmission fluid is pumped through the system until all residues are removed and the transmission is completely refilled with clean fluid. For heavily contaminated systems, a specialized cleaning solution is used beforehand to further optimize the result.

In contrast, a standard transmission fluid change only drains part of the old fluid. Since the torque converter and other components retain a significant amount of fluid, this method results in only a partial refresh – often referred to as a “fluid rejuvenation.”

Regardless of the method, the transmission fluid filter should always be replaced. This filter is a crucial role by capturing impurities and deposits in the fluid before they can enter and damage the transmission.

Depending on your vehicle, regular fluid changes in the front and rear differentials, transfer case, and Haldex clutch (including filters) are also highly recommended to maintain optimal drivetrain performance.
